Stoke Aldermoor

Stoke Aldermoor

Stoke Aldermoor is one of the Priority Neighbourhoods in Coventry. It comes under Lower Stoke Ward. Its population is about 3,000 and it is relatively cut off from the rest of Coventry by the circle formed by Allard Way, Humber Road and Binley Road.

Nevertheless, there have been new developments taking place. These include the new Aldermoor Farm Primary School and the opening of Coventry City Council’s One Stop Shop. There are plans for a new YMCA and health centre.

The VoiceYourView team is planning to engage the community of Stoke Aldermoor in a discussion regarding their area. This information will be fed back to Neighbourhood Management South (Coventry City Council) personnel and may influence future plans for Stoke Aldermoor.

What are we interested in?

What do local people like about the area?
What don’t they like about the area?
Do local people have ideas how the area could be improved in terms of design and safety?
Do they have specific suggestions for improvement?
Is there something that concerns them about Stoke Aldermoor’s physical space?

Those who live or work in Stoke Aldermoor, or just care about the area, will be asked to voice their opinions, ideas, suggestions and concerns about it using a number of VoiceYourView technologies. These will involve the use of mobile phones, the internet and others.

The VoiceYourView team has trialled a number of such technologies already. So far, a trial was carried out in Lancaster Library between October 2009 and January 2010. A number of further options will be trialled at Coventry University campus between September and December 2010.

From January 2010, VoiceYourView is hoping to involve the members of the Stoke Aldermoor community in adjusting existing VoiceYourView technologies to suit their needs, abilities and aspirations and give them an opportunity to voice their opinions, ideas, suggestions and concerns about Stoke Aldermoor. If desired, other methods of commenting can also be developed. After that, these technologies will be made live for the general public to use. All information will be channelled to Coventry City Council. The idea is to provide new ways in which a wider range of people can get involved in shaping the space around them.

We are currently meeting up with some of the local community representatives to learn more about the area and the people that live in Stoke Aldermoor.

Stoke Aldermoor Summer Fete

Katerina Frankova and Laurence Garton of the VoiceYourView team will be attending the Stoke Aldermoor Summer Fete on 17th July 2010. They will be there to tell the local community more about the project and answer any possible questions. We are also interested in any ideas the local community may have. Some general information about the local community’s awareness with every day technologies will also be collected to inform the development of the project [more].
