Jamie Mitchell

Jamie Mitchell says he is driven by the state-of-the-art facilities at Lancaster University's Engineering Department, and is impressed with the level of research experience and project opportunities provided on the BEng Engineering programme.

Renowned facilities

Having achieved a BEng degree in Engineering at Lancaster, Jamie was highly impressed with The Engineering Department’s standard of equipment. “After thoroughly enjoying my undergraduate degree, I wanted to continue working there as part of my postgraduate studies,” he says.

Real world study

Jamie says he has benefited greatly from his time at Lancaster and is keen to recommend the Engineering Department to prospective students. “The facilities are renowned,” he says. “There’s the mechanical engineering workshop, several high performance computers for running detailed simulations, as well as equipment for electrical and electronic engineering. My PhD enabled me to put the theory learnt in lectures into practise, allowing me to observe how several concepts work in the real world and as such accelerated my learning.”

National research

Jamie recalls RF Engineering being his favourite topic of postgraduate study. “The skills I have learnt and the multitude of helpful facilities I have received and from the course are the foundation of my PhD and have allowed me to become involved in several experiments at various national labs,” he says. “Studying at Lancaster University has given me fantastic experience and involvement in large-scale research projects and experiments.”
