Psychology at Lancaster University

With a team of academic researchers at the forefront of psychological development, cutting-edge facilities, excellent teaching standards, and flexible degree schemes, Lancaster’s Department of Psychology offers among the very best in psychological teaching and research.

Our single major Psychology BSc and BA (Hons) courses are accredited by the British Psychological Society, and will make you eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership accreditation, the first step toward becoming a Chartered Psychologist. We offer a number of combined degrees, allowing you to study subjects such as French, German and Spanish Studies, Linguistics and Management along with your psychology degree. We believe that these flexible and interdisciplinary options reflect our innovative and forward-thinking approach to teaching psychology. Our Psychology (Study Abroad) courses also offer the opportunity to spend a year studying at one of our prestigious partner universities.

Our Ethos

At Lancaster you won’t get lost in large lecture theatres with hundreds of other students. We offer small class sizes and an open door policy so that you really get to know your teachers and fellow students, and feel that you can approach us at any time for support.  We believe this fosters a productive learning environment which helps you to achieve your potential.

All of our lecturers are active researchers, meaning that you will benefit from the knowledge of those at the leading edge of psychological study. We teach using a mix of lectures, seminars and practical lab sessions, encouraging increasingly independent study as your degree progresses.

Facilities

With our research being carried out in a 365 m2, £1.1 million, custom-designed building, The Psychology Department is in possession of a wide range of state-of-the-art equipment.
