School Outreach
The Engineering department at Lancaster University is keen to work with schools to help raise awareness of Engineering and the opportunities that studying for a degree in Engineering can provide.
Recent schools outreach activities have included:
- Sixth form Conference Competition
- Support for school Engineering enrichment groups
- Engineering workshop events both on campus and out in schools
- Engineering Research and Careers talks
- Work experience opportunities
- School visits to the department
Last academic year (2014/15) the Engineering department interacted directly with over 300 school age pupils. 80.8 % of the pupils who gave feedback said their awareness of what engineering is increased due to an interaction with the department and 68.9 % said they would consider studying Engineering at University.
The engineering department also works with the Smallpeice Trust, the Arkwright Scholarships Trust, EDT and Lancaster University Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) to provide further opportunities for school aged pupils (and their teachers) to experience Engineering.
For the academic year 2015/16 Lancaster University Engineering Department can offer the following activities to schools:
- Yr 12 Engineering Competition
- Yr 12 and Yr 10 Research Experience week
- Careers and Research Talks
- Twilight training sessions for teachers
